About Programme

The primary mission of the Social Work Department is to raise individuals respectful to differences, sensitive to human rights, endeavoring to remove social inequalities and achieve social justice, providing social work support to individuals unable to fulfill their psychical, psychological and sociological functionalities with an ability to think analytically and critically. In this respect, students are to be qualified in courses such as social work theory, applications and approaches, social work research, foundations of social justice, work ethics and values, human rights, communication and mutual relations, behavioral sciences and psychodynamic approaches, social reform and social welfare theories and models. The objectives of the program are: (1) to raise individuals who have acquired the vision of generalist social work; (2) to raise individuals who have achieved a certain consciousness on the differences and diversities of the client system by using the foundation of knowledge, skill and value of social work; (3) to foster social responsibility on the subjects such as research on social problems, development of social welfare models, construction and implication of relevant social plans, programs and to raise individuals who can conduct social research; (4) to raise individuals defending human rights, democracy, fair equality of opportunity, sensitivity towards differences, tolerance, mutual understanding, freedom of belief, option and expression, cherishing humans, knowledge and science. The central vision of the Social Work Department is to gain individuals who can think universal ethical, analytical and critical to the society and contribute to the attainment of social work education to the universal standards.

History
Karabuk University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Social Work was established on February 2, 2011 and aims to provide undergraduate level social work education based on student admission in the 2013-2014 academic year. Currently, the social work program, which provides education and training services to nearly 400 students, provides education with an academic staff consisting of two professors, three associate professors, a assistant professor doctor and three research assistants. In addition to undergraduate education, there are also postgraduate education opportunities at the master's and doctoral level.
Qualification Awarded
Qualification Awarded Upon successful completion of all the courses in the curriculum, the students are awarded the Bachelor Degree (BA) in Social Work.
Admission Requirements
For Turkish Citizens:
(1) High School Diploma, (2) Placement through a centralised, nation-wide student selection and placement examination organized by Assessment, Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM). Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their composite scores consisting of the scores on the centralized exam and high school grade point averages.

For International Students:
(1) High School Diploma and its "Certificate of Equivalency” granted by the Turkish Ministry of National Education (MoNE). (2) Exam for International Student (YÖS) or international university entrance examinations such as SAT I, ACT, etc., recognised by the national authority in higher education, the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their scores obtained from YÖS or equivalent exams.
Higher Grade Transition
Upon successful completion of this programme, students may apply to second cycle degree or directly to integrated third cycle (doctorate) programmes.
Graduation Requirements
The students who study in the Social Work programme are required to fulfill the following graduation requirements in order to get the Bachelor’s Degree:

• The students must pass all the credited courses with at least a letter grade DC (Conditional Pass), together with non-credited courses with at least the letter grade G.

• They must obtain a total of 240 ECTS Credits.

• They must achieve a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Since the 2013-2014 academic year, graduates have been around 4000. Graduates work in various units of the Ministries, especially the Ministry of Family and Social Services, municipalities, non-governmental organizations, and educational institutions and services psycho-social support in health, special education, social security, social outreach, etc.

It is carried out following the conditions in the Regulation of Karabuk University Associate Degree, Undergraduate Education-Training and Examination and Karabuk University the Principles of Measurement and Evaluation.
