About Programme

The aim of this program is to train qualified students that can use the English language effectively and fluently, can translate at a basic level and improve themselves, and can monitor developments in a global competitive environment. It is aimed to train professional staff who are sensitive to national and cultural values, who are aware of universal and scientific education in their field, who can combine theoretical knowledge with practice, and also students who can fulfil the requirements of their profession and its ethical values.

History
Vocational school located in World Heritage City of Safranbolu which holds the best examples of the Ottoman architecture, was established on 05.01.1992 on a building which belonged to Safranbolu Municipality. In its early days, it is served as a part of Hacettepe University Zonguldak Engineering Faculty. With the establishment of Zonguldak Karaelmas University on 11.07.1992, school became a part of it. Our school was connected to Karabük University, which was established on 29.05.2007, went on education under the name of "Safranbolu Vocational School" until May 2021. With the decision of the General Assembly of Higher Education dated 26.05.2021, the name of our school was changed to "Safranbolu Şefik Yılmaz Dizdar Vocational School".
Our program started education in 2012-2013 within Safranbolu Vocational School and still continues to provide education with 5 lecturers.
Qualification Awarded
Students who successfully complete this program are entitled to an Associate Degree in Applied English Translation.
Admission Requirements
For Turkish Citizens:
(1) High School Diploma, (2) Placement through a centralised, nation-wide student selection and placement examination organized by Assessment, Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM). Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their composite scores consisting of the scores on the centralized exam and high school grade point averages.
For International Students:
(1) High School Diploma and its "Certificate of Equivalency” granted by the Turkish Ministry of National Education (MoNE). (2) Exam for International Student (YÖS) or international university entrance examinations such as SAT I, ACT, etc., recognised by the national authority in higher education, the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their scores obtained from YÖS or equivalent exams.

Higher Grade Transition
Upon successful completion of this programme, students may apply to first cycle degree programmes in or a related field of the study and gain access to these programmes through a centralised, nation-wide Vertical Transfer Examination (Dikey Geçiş Sınavı).
Graduation Requirements
In order to graduate from this program:
• Weighted Grade Point Average (CGPA) should not be less than 60 out of 100.
• Students must complete 30 working days training internship.
• Students must have 120 ECTS credits and at least 64 local credits.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Program graduates can work at public and private enterprises. They can also become translators in the private and public sectors, including international companies, embassies, government offices, banks and so on.
Assessment and Grading
Exam measurement and evaluation procedures are carried out within the scope of Karabük University "Associate Degree, Undergraduate Education-Training and Exam Regulation".
