About Programme
The Geography Department was established in 2009 as a part of Faculty of Literature. The department, has started education since the academic year 2010-2011. In our department 7 Prof. Dr., 5 Associate Prof. Dr., 2 Assistant Prof. Dr. and 1 Research Assistant are employed and number of academic staff is rapidly rising.  Students who have the right to study in the Faculty of Geography will study 8 semester.
The objectives of undergraduate program are to make students comprehend the world's and Turkey's natural, social, cultural, political, and economic characteristics and enable them to obtain scientific knowledge and research methods to make analysis and synthesis in the related subjects
By taking into account the needs of society and the latest developments in Science of Geography, a curriculum has been established. By the curriculum including courses from different disciplines and laboratory facilities, supported particularly with statistical analysis and Geographic Information Systems, it is aimed that our students will get education to acquire skills and modern methods of producing solutions to the problems of today's conjuncture.
There are five major fields of study in our department: 

1-Physical Geography
2-Human and Economic Geography
3-Geographic Information Systems
4-Regional Geography
5-Geography of Turkey
 
General issues of the geography will be presented in the first year while second year will be given to applications of theoretical lessons. The curriculum includes Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) classes which become widespread in Turkey. 
In our department, there is a 60-person computer lab opened for GIS and Remote Sensing courses. As of 2022, a dendrochronology laboratory has been established in our department.

Students who graduate from the department is titled as Geographer. Graduates can operate in formal, semi-public or private institutionssuch as Mineral Research and Exploration Institute, the State Water Works, Rural, Forest Department, Highways, Meteorological Service, Turkey Institute of Statistics, State Planning Organization, Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Environment, local authorities and so on. In addition, students with the formation of the pedagogical training will also have the right to work in public or private schools.

Qualification Awarded
Students who graduated from department of geography called "Geographer". Upon successful completion of the programme, students are eligible to apply to Master’s(second cycle) and in some cases, to Doctorate (third cycle) Degree programmes in the same field or in the related fields. Admission Requirements
For Turkish Citizens:
(1) High School Diploma, (2) Placement through a centralised, nation-wide student selection and placement examination organized by Assessment, Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM). Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their composite scores consisting of the scores on the centralized exam and high school grade point averages.
For International Students:
(1) High School Diploma and its "Certificate of Equivalency” granted by the Turkish Ministry of National Education (MoNE). (2) Exam for International Student (YÖS) or international university entrance examinations such as SAT I, ACT, etc., recognised by the national authority in higher education, the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their scores obtained from YÖS or equivalent exams.
Higher Grade Transition
Upon successful completion of this programme, students may apply to second cycle degree or directly to integrated third cycle (doctorate) programmes.

Graduation Requirements
In order to qualify for the award of Bachelor’s Degree;

A student is required to successfully complete the designated program of courses meet a minimum of 240 ECTS credit requirement, have a minimum GPA of 2.00/4.00 and prepare and present a graduation project.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Graduate students have opportunities for working in different kinds of academic fields in universities as "Geographer", "Research Assistant" and "Geography Specialist"; also, they can find opportunity of working in government foundations like ministry of public education and in private schools and colleges. Moreover, they can find various positions in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration, General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works, General Directorate of Forestry, General Directorate of Highways, General Directorate of Meteorology, Turkish Statistical Institute, local administrations. In addition to official institutions, he can also work in semi-official and private institutions.
Assessment and Grading
Each course has a written mid-term exam. The program of the exams is announced in the first month of a term. A final exam is held in the end of the term for each course. Provided that a valid excuse is declared (for example, health problems), a student can take an excuse examination. The score of a course is calculated with the 40% contribution of the mid-term exam and 60% contribution of the final exam. Students have to attend the classes and exams. The attendance of the students is followed by the lecturer.
