History
Safranbolu Faculty of Tourism established in 26.09.2011 has started education in the academic year of 2013-2014. The faculty has 4 departments namely; Tourism Management, Tourists Guiding, Gastronomy and Culinary Arts and Recreation Managerment. The faculty gave its first graduates in 2018. The building has sufficient facilities (classrooms, computer labs, a library, a reading room), a school cafeteria for the food and beverage needs of students, and also a canteen for the social needs of students. The Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, which began its education in the academic year of 2018-2019 with 44 students, provides students with the opportunity to practice with 200 m2 educational kitchen.
Qualification Awarded
Upon successful completion of all the courses in the curriculum, the students are awarded the Bachelor Degree (BA) in Gastronomy and Culinary Arts
Admission Requirements
For Turkish Citizens:
(1) High School Diploma, (2) Placement through a centralised, nation-wide student selection and placement examination organized by Assessment, Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM). Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their composite scores consisting of the scores on the centralized exam and high school grade point averages.
For International Students:
(1) High School Diploma and its "Certificate of Equivalency” granted by the Turkish Ministry of National Education (MoNE). (2) Exam for International Student (YÖS) or international university entrance examinations such as SAT I, ACT, etc., recognised by the national authority in higher education, the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their scores obtained from YÖS or equivalent exams.
Higher Grade Transition
Upon successful completion of this programme, students may apply to second cycle degree or directly to integrated third cycle (doctorate) programmes.
Graduation Requirements
In order to qualify for the award of Bachelor’s Degree, the student must complete
-all courses in the curriculum with the minimum grade of C,
-Industrial training period,
-a minimum CGPA of 2.00/4.00 (50/100) and 240 ECTS and no failing grades.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Graduates of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department have employement opportunities in food and beverage departments of hotel businesses, independent restaurants and bars as well as industrial kitchens. Entrepreneur graduates can initiate their own food and beverage enterprise. There are also academic career opportunities for graduates of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department.
