About Programme

To be able to perceive and evaluate social matters at national and universal level. To be able to do researches and to improve a method about the sociological problems and produce solutions. To be able to analyze the social conditions in nineteenth century that caused rising of Sociology. To be able to evaluate leading theorists and their effects on main theories in twenty century which was the development phase of Sociology To be able to interrogate and pose a question on popular contemporary sociological concepts objectively as globalization, multiculturalism, identity and postmodernism To be able to evaluate sociological process from beginning to current in terms of leading Turkish thinkers at national level. To be able to provide the usage of interdisciplinary knowledge for the universal and local problems concerning society and use significant programs as SPSS


History
The Sociology Department was established in 2009 as a part of Faculty of Letter. The department has started education since the academic year 2010-2011. Students who have the right to study in the Department of Sociology will study 8 semester. In our department two Professor, four Assistant Professor and one Research Assistant are employed. Department of Sociology includes three sub-departments: “General Sociology and Methodology”, “Institutional Sociology” and “Applied Sociology”. The courses are given in these departments.
Qualification Awarded
This is a first cycle degree program in the science of Sociology (240 ECTS). Upon successful completion of all the courses in the curriculum, the students are awarded the Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. Students who graduated from Department of Sociology called "Sociologist". Upon successful completion of the programme, students are eligible to apply to both national and international graduate programs in the same field or the related disciplines.
Admission Requirements
For Turkish Citizens:
(1) High School Diploma, (2) Placement through a centralised, nation-wide student selection and placement examination organized by Assessment, Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM). Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their composite scores consisting of the scores on the centralized exam and high school grade point averages.
For International Students:
(1) High School Diploma and its "Certificate of Equivalency” granted by the Turkish Ministry of National Education (MoNE). (2) Exam for International Student (YÖS) or international university entrance examinations such as SAT I, ACT, etc., recognised by the national authority in higher education, the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their scores obtained from YÖS or equivalent exams.
Higher Grade Transition
Upon successful completion of this programme, students may apply to second cycle degree or directly to integrated third cycle (doctorate) programmes.
Graduation Requirements
In order to qualify for the award of Bachelor’s Degree the student must successfully complete the designated program of courses, meet a minimum of 240 ECTS credit requirement, have a minimum GPA of 2.00.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Students who graduate from the Department of Sociology can find the opportunity to work in the public and private sectors. Graduated students of this department can be sociology, logic and psychology teacher in schools after master program without thesis. Also they can work with the title of "sociologist" in various ministries and other institutions.
Upon a successful completion of the programme, students may continue with master and doctoral studies in the same or similar scientific areas, which may accept students from the science of Sociology.
Assessment and Grading
Each course has a written mid-term exam. The program of the exams is announced in the first month of a term. A final exam is held in the end of the term for each course. Provided that a valid excuse is declared (for example, health problems), a student can take an excuse examination. The score of a course is calculated with the 40% contribution of the mid-term exam and 60% contribution of the final exam. Students have to attend the classes and exams. The attendance of the students is followed by the lecturer.
