About Programme

The Department of Turkish language and literature started its education life with 41 students in the 2009-2010 academic year. As of 2020 - 2021, about 700 students are teaching in our department, as well as a master's program with a dissertation is being conducted in our department. In our department, there are six sub departments: new Turkish literature, old Turkish literature, new Turkish language, old Turkish language, folk literature and modern Turkish dialects and Literatures. Three associate professors, seven faculty members phd. and two research assistants are working in our department, and our number of academic staff is growing rapidly. Day and night, a total of 150 undergraduate students are admitted to the program each year.

Besides the general mission of the Turkish language and literature departments, our department aims to train qualified personnel who can conduct research on the language, literature and folklore resources of Karabük and its surroundings and to contribute to the promotion of the cultural heritage of the region.

There are enough classrooms where the teaching is properly conducted. Moreover, there is a satisfactory number of the reference and critical books at the moment in the library, and the attempts to purchase more books continue. In addition to the books, the university has subcribed to e-journals and database such as JSTOR, whihc is a very useful sources for the students in the programme.

The goals and objectives of the study in the programme of Turkish Language and Literature are as follows:


* To educate students in the field of Turkish language and literature.


* To enable them to follow up the line of Turkish literary creativity from the ancient time to the present.


* To enable them to develop their critical understanding of literary works.


* To have them be able to make personal criticism of any literary text.


* To be able to compare and contrast individually Turkish literary texts with other texts.

Qualification Awarded
Upon successful completion of all the courses in the curriculum, the students are awarded the Bachelor of Arts Degree (BA) in Turkish Language and Literature
Admission Requirements
For Turkish Citizens:
(1) High School Diploma, (2) Placement through a centralised, nation-wide student selection and placement examination organized by Assessment, Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM). Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their composite scores consisting of the scores on the centralized exam and high school grade point averages.
For International Students:
(1) High School Diploma and its "Certificate of Equivalency” granted by the Turkish Ministry of National Education (MoNE). (2) Exam for International Student (YÖS) or international university entrance examinations such as SAT I, ACT, etc., recognised by the national authority in higher education, the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their scores obtained from YÖS or equivalent exams.
Higher Grade Transition
Upon successful completion of this programme, students may apply to second cycle degree or directly to integrated third cycle (doctorate) programmes.
Graduation Requirements
In order to qualify for the award of Bachelor’s Degree, the student must complete
-all courses in the curriculum
-a minimum CGPA of 2.00/4.00 (50/100) and 240 ECTS and no failing grades.

Assessment and Grading
For every lecture there are one midterm and one final exam. %40 percent midterm exam grade plus %60 percent final exam grade gives the conclusive grade of the lecture.
