About Programme

The main purpose of the Chemistry Department is to educate students in chemistry and chemistry related sectors in order to carry out research and development activities as chemists. The department consists of 6 departments, analytical, inorganic, organic, physical chemistry, biochemistry and polymer chemistry. The program is completed with the achievement of 240 credits (ECTS) compulsory and elective courses in 8 semesters. In addition to these, students are conducting 2 semester Chemistry research projects. In addition, the general qualifications of the students of Chemistry Department can be listed as follows: 1. To have advanced knowledge and understanding and to use this knowledge, which is built on the skills, knowledge and competencies gained in general secondary education in the field of chemistry and supported by the course materials and other scientific sources containing the newest knowledge of their field. 2. To evaluate the knowledge, understanding and skills of a wide range of concepts, ideas and data with scientific methods.

History
Department of Chemistry was founded at 2007 and started to accept students.
Qualification Awarded
Upon successful completion of all the courses in the curriculum and programme requirements, the students are awarded the Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry.
Admission Requirements
For Turkish Citizens:
(1) High School Diploma, (2) Placement through a centralised, nation-wide student selection and placement examination organized by Assessment, Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM). Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their composite scores consisting of the scores on the centralized exam and high school grade point averages.
For International Students:
(1) High School Diploma and its "Certificate of Equivalency” granted by the Turkish Ministry of National Education (MoNE). (2) Exam for International Student (YÖS) or international university entrance examinations such as SAT I, ACT, etc., recognised by the national authority in higher education, the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their scores obtained from YÖS or equivalent exams.
Higher Grade Transition
Upon successful completion of this programme, students may apply to second cycle degree or directly to integrated third cycle (doctorate) programmes.
Graduation Requirements
In order to be qualified for the award of Bachelor’s Degree,
- The student must complete all courses in the curriculum
- Must have a minimum CGPA of 2.50/4.00 and
- Must complete 240 ECTS and pass all the courses
- Must complete graduation project successfully

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Undergraduate Programme provides the students to have basic chemistry knowledge that is used in chemical industry. Graduates of the programme have ability to use analytical instruments and basic laboratory devices and knowledge to conduct basic industrial chemistry laboratory processes. Graduates can find job opportunities in a broad range of industries such as petroleum and coal products industries , rubber and plastic industries, food industry, paper industry, metal industry and farmaceutical industry.
Assessment and Grading
One midterm and one final exam are held in each semester. Other parameters that can be used in measurement and evaluation are included in the information package of each course.
