About Programme
The Department of Archaeology, affiliated to the Institute of Graduate Studies, offers a 4-year doctoral education. The language of instruction of the courses and general culture courses of the Department of Archaeology is Turkish. The total ECTS credits of the doctoral program is 240. The main objective of the Department of Archaeology is to educate individuals who are equipped with the skills needed by our country in the light of universal values, who have the ability to use modern technologies in their profession and who have the duty to present their production in the fields of research, teaching and service for the benefit of society. It is among our important duties to train competent archaeologists who can bring the unique cultural assets of our country to light with scientific methods and to train staff who know how to preserve and exhibit these artifacts in our museums with modern methods.

History
Department of Archeology was established in 2007. He started his Master's degree in 2019 and his PhD in 2022 at the Institute. Within the Department, courses are conducted under a single curriculum covering all branches of archeology, such as Prehistoric Archaeology, Protohistory and Near-Asian Archeology, and Classical Archaeology. Our academic staff in the Department consists of faculty members who have expertise in all the departments mentioned above. As of 2023, the academic staff of the Department consists of 1 Professor, 3 Associate Professors, 1 Dr. Lecturer It consists of members. The course contents in our graduate program primarily focus on Anatolian Archeology, with historical limitations starting from Prehistoric periods to the Middle Ages, and also by considering the relationship and interaction of Anatolia with the surrounding regions and cultures in a broad framework, archeology It is aimed for students who graduate from the program with general archeology formation to specialize in the field of science. Faculty members of the Department, since the establishment of the Department; In addition to their educational activities, they carry out academic activities, excavations and surface surveys in various parts of our country, and take part as scientific consultants in museum rescue excavations.

Admission Requirements
General admission requirements for Turkish and foreign students are valid to start the program. Having a master's degree from the departments of Archaeology, Classical Archaeology, Protohistory and Asia Minor Archaeology, Prehistory (Prehistoric Archaeology), Underwater Archeology, Settlement Archeology. Other conditions are determined within the scope of "Karabuk University Postgraduate Education Regulation".
Higher Grade Transition
Graduates who successfully complete the doctoral program can apply for an academic position in higher education institutions in the country or abroad or for an expert position in research centers in public institutions in the same or similar fields. Those who have a doctorate degree can apply for post-doctoral programs both in their own field and in multidisciplinary fields.
Graduation Requirements
The program consists of at least eight courses and thesis work, with a total of not less than 24 local credits. The doctoral study program consists of compulsory and elective courses. In addition to midterm and final exams, learning activities such as reports, assignments, quizzes, seminar presentations and project studies can be used to evaluate the student's performance during the semester. In order for the student to be considered successful in the relevant course, this grade must be at least 70 out of 100. A student in the doctoral program must write the results obtained regarding his thesis in accordance with the thesis writing rules of the relevant institute and defend his thesis orally in front of the jury.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Graduates of the doctoral program work as academicians in relevant departments of universities, General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums Units under the Ministry of Culture, Provincial Directorates of Culture, Municipalities within the framework of the protection of cultural heritage, Ministry of Public Works and Settlement, Energy to which institutions such as BOTAŞ, DSİ, TCKY, DDY, TPAO are affiliated. They will be able to find employment in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Industry.
Assessment and Grading
For students with a master's degree with thesis, the PhD program requires a total of at least 21 credits, including at least 7 courses, seminar, qualifying exam, thesis proposal and thesis study, and at least 240 ECTS credits, provided that one academic year is not less than 60 ECTS. occurs. For students accepted with a bachelor's degree, it consists of a total of at least 42 credits, including at least 14 courses, seminar, qualifying exam, thesis proposal and thesis study, and a total of at least 300 ECTS credits, provided that one academic year is not less than 60 ECTS. .
