The aim of this program is to train competent researchers and academics who can contribute to a better understanding of the tourism discipline in the global tourism market, develop different insights, respond to the demands of tourism enterprises, and support the market in the fields of teamwork, competition, leadership, and innovation management in the tourism market.

History
Karabük University, Safranbolu Tourism Faculty, Department of Tourism Management started its undergraduate education in 2011 and graduate education in 2013. He was entitled to give doctorate education in 2021. There are 358 students in the undergraduate program and 58 students in the graduate program of the tourism management department. The Department of Tourism Management continues its educational activities with a staff consisting of 1 Professor, 5 Associate Professors, 4 Assistant Professors and 1 Research Assistant.
Qualification Awarded
The Doctorate Degree (PhD) awarded to the graduates who successfully fulfil all the programme requirements.
Admission Requirements
For Turkish Citizens:
Second Cycle (Master’s) Degree diploma with thesis, (2) A minimum ALES score of 55 or equivalent international examinations scores for graduate-level programmes such as GRE, GMAT, etc., recognised by YÖK. (3) A minimum score of 55 in accepted foreign language proficiency exams. Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their composite scores consisting of second cycle degree grade point averages, ALES and foreign language exam.
For International Students:
Second Cycle Degree diploma with thesis obtained from universities recognised by YÖK. Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their second cycle degree grade point averages.

Graduation Requirements
a) The doctoral program is eight semesters for each semester, starting from the semester when the courses related to the program they are enrolled in, for those who are accepted with a master's degree with thesis, excluding the time spent in scientific preparation, and the maximum completion period is 12 semesters; For those admitted with a bachelor's degree, it is 10 semesters and the maximum completion period is 14 semesters.
b) The maximum time to successfully complete the credit courses required for the doctoral program is four semesters for those who are accepted with a master's degree with thesis, and six semesters for those who are accepted with a bachelor's degree. A student who cannot successfully complete his/her credit courses within this period or cannot achieve a GPA of at least 3.00 out of 4.00 points is dismissed from the Institute.
c) The student who successfully completes the credit courses, is successful in the proficiency exam and whose thesis proposal is accepted, but who cannot complete the thesis work according to the first paragraph until the end of twelve or fourteen semesters, is dismissed from the Institute.
d) Students who have applied to a doctorate program with a bachelor's degree, who are unable to complete their credit courses and/or thesis work within the maximum period, and those who have not been successful in their doctoral thesis, are given a master's degree without thesis upon their request, provided that they have fulfilled the credit load, project and other similar requirements for the non-thesis master's degree. . An additional semester is given to the student within the maximum period to fulfill the requirements. A student who fails at the end of this period is dismissed from the Institute.
e) Students admitted with a master's degree must take the proficiency exam by the end of the fifth semester at the latest, and students admitted with a bachelor's degree by the end of the seventh semester at the latest. The doctoral qualifying examination is conducted in two parts, written and oral. In order for the student to be considered successful in the doctoral qualifying exam, he/she must get at least 75 points out of 100 from each of the written and oral exams. A student who fails any of these exams is deemed to have failed the proficiency exam.
f) The student who successfully completes the doctoral qualifying examination defends the thesis proposal, which includes the purpose, method and study plan of the research to be carried out, in front of the thesis monitoring committee, within six months at the latest.
g) For the student whose thesis proposal is accepted, the thesis monitoring committee convenes at least twice a year, once between January-June and once in July-December. There must be at least 5 months between two meetings. The student submits a written report to the committee members at least one month before the meeting date.
h) A student in the doctoral program writes the results obtained in accordance with the spelling rules of the Institute and defends his thesis orally in front of the jury. The thesis defense exam consists of the presentation of the thesis work followed by a question-answer section. Students whose thesis is accepted are considered successful.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Students who graduated from the Tourism Management Department doctoral program;
-Can work as a lecturer at national and international universities.
-Employment as a manager in the front office, housekeeping, food and beverage, purchasing, marketing-sales and human resources departments of accommodation businesses, reservation, operation, ticketing and accounting departments of travel agencies, ground handling services of airline companies, food and beverage businesses and recreation businesses. can find.
-Can find employment opportunities in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and its affiliated organizations in the public sector.
Assessment and Grading
(1) For those who are accepted with a master's degree with thesis, excluding the time spent in scientific preparation, the doctoral program is at least eight semesters for each semester, starting from the semester in which the courses related to the program they are enrolled in, regardless of whether they are registered or not, and the maximum completion period is 12 semesters; For those admitted with a bachelor's degree, it is 10 semesters and the maximum completion period is 14 semesters.
(2) The maximum period for successfully completing the required credit courses for the doctoral program is four semesters for those who are accepted with a master's degree with thesis, and six semesters for those who are accepted with a bachelor's degree. Students who fail to complete their credit courses successfully within this period or who cannot achieve a minimum GPA of 3.00 out of 4.00 are dismissed from the institute.
(3) A student who successfully completes the credit courses, is successful in the proficiency exam and whose thesis proposal is accepted, but who cannot complete the thesis work according to the first paragraph by the end of twelve or fourteen semesters, is dismissed from the institute.
(4) Students who have applied to a doctorate program with a bachelor's degree, those who cannot complete the thesis work within the maximum period of the credit courses and/or those who have not been successful in the doctoral thesis, can receive a non-thesis master's diploma upon request, provided that they have fulfilled the credit load, project and other similar requirements for the non-thesis master's. is given. An additional semester is given to the student within the maximum period of time to fulfill the requirements. The student who fails at the end of this period is dismissed from the institute.
