History
|
The Vocational School commenced its educational activities on 5 January 1992 in a building owned by the municipality in Safranbolu, a UNESCO World Heritage City. In its early days, it is served as a part of Hacettepe University Zonguldak Engineering Faculty. With the establishment of Zonguldak Karaelmas University on 11.07.1992, school became a part of it. Our school was connected to Karabük University, which was established on 29.05.2007, went on education under the name of "Safranbolu Vocational School" until May 2021. With the decision of the General Assembly of Higher Education dated 26.05.2021, the name of our school was changed to "Safranbolu Şefik Yılmaz Dizdar Vocational School".

Qualification Awarded
|
Students who successfully complete all courses in the program corresponding to a total of 120 ECTS credits and fulfill their vocational training in enterprises are awarded an Associate Degree in Tourism and Hotel Management.

Admission Requirements
|
Admission to the program is based on the results of the national university entrance examination (TYT) administered by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Candidates are placed into the program according to their scores obtained from this centralized examination. Detailed information regarding application and placement procedures can be found in the official guidelines published by ÖSYM. The admission of international students is carried out through the evaluation of direct applications to Karabük University, in accordance with the regulations set by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).

Higher Grade Transition
|
Students who successfully complete this program may apply to bachelor’s degree programs in their field of study or in related disciplines. Graduates are eligible to transfer to undergraduate programs through the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS), a nationwide centralized placement system. Within this framework, students may gain admission to bachelor’s programs such as Accommodation Management, Accommodation and Tourism Management, Tourist Guiding, Tourism Management and Hospitality, Tourism and Hotel Management, Tourism and Guiding, Tourism and Hospitality, as well as Tourism Management and Gastronomy and Culinary Arts.

Graduation Requirements
|
In order to graduate from the program, students are required to successfully complete all courses in the curriculum corresponding to a total of 120 ECTS credits, have no failed courses, fulfill the compulsory internship (30 working days), and achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 2.00 out of 4.00. Students who meet these requirements are awarded an associate degree.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Graduates of the program are entitled to receive the title of “Vocational Staff” and may be employed in various fields within the tourism and hospitality industry, as well as establish their own businesses in related areas. After completing the two-year associate degree, students may transfer to four-year bachelor’s degree programs in their field through the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS). In addition, graduates may be appointed to positions in public institutions if they achieve the required score in the Public Personnel Selection Examination (KPSS). Graduates of the Tourism and Hotel Management Program play a significant role in meeting the increasing demand for qualified workforce, particularly in the accommodation and hospitality sector. Through the theoretical knowledge and practical experience they acquire, graduates have a wide range of employment opportunities across the tourism industry, including hotels, resorts, and other accommodation establishments, as well as food and beverage businesses, travel agencies and tour operators, transportation companies, and recreation enterprises.

Assessment and Grading
|
Students are required to take at least one midterm examination and one final examination for each course. The overall course grade is determined based on the results of the midterm and final examinations. All examinations are evaluated on a scale of 100 points. The course instructor defines the assessment and evaluation plan for each course in detail, and these plans are specified in the “Course Teaching Plan” included in the Information Package. Assessment and evaluation processes are conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Karabük University Associate and Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations.
