About Programme
|
The programme in the Department of Philosophy aims to develop students' ability to analyse ways of thinking and acting in everyday life. It also provides an opportunity for human beings to question and investigate their responsibilities towards themselves and others, as well as their place in nature and history. What distinguishes a philosophically thinking mind is its coherence, its incompleteness and its unending activity of reflection on various beliefs, debates and theories. Such a mind is not only able to cope with its own life concerns and challenges, but also to develop its skills in order to contribute to the progress of institutions and organisations, from the arts and sciences to political, social and even global affairs. For all these reasons, the main aim of the philosophy department is to help students acquire these philosophical habits.

History
|
Our department was established in 2011. The department began recruiting students in 2013-2014 and now has about 670 students. The Department of Philosophy has a staff consisting of 1 Professor, 1 Associate Professor, 2 Assistant Professors and 1 Research Assistants. A total of 72 undergraduate students are accepted each year, only in I. Undergraduate students are taught courses in the departments of Philosophy History, Systematic Philosophy and Logic, History of Turkish Islamic Thought and History of Science.

Qualification Awarded
|
Our students who will graduate from the Department of Philosophy will have a bachelor's degree by taking the title of "Philosopher".

Admission Requirements
For Turkish Citizens:
(1) High School Diploma, (2) Placement through a centralised, nation-wide student selection and placement examination organized by Assessment, Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM). Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their composite scores consisting of the scores on the centralized exam and high school grade point averages.
For International Students:
(1) High School Diploma and its "Certificate of Equivalency” granted by the Turkish Ministry of National Education (MoNE). (2) Exam for International Student (YÖS) or international university entrance examinations such as SAT I, ACT, etc., recognised by the national authority in higher education, the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their scores obtained from YÖS or equivalent exams.

Higher Grade Transition
Upon successful completion of this programme, students may apply to second cycle degree or directly to integrated third cycle (doctorate) programmes.

Graduation Requirements
In order to qualify for the award of Bachelor’s Degree, the student must complete
-all courses in the curriculum, (152 Credit)
-a minimum CGPA of 2.00/4.00 (50/100) and 240 ECTS and no failing grades.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
|
Graduates of the department with the title "Philosopher" have the opportunity to pursue high-level academic careers. Furthermore, all schools and institutions affiliated with the Ministry of National Education (including Public Education Centers and Private Teaching Institutions), as well as state institutions requiring analytical thinking skills, recruit students from philosophy departments, provided they have completed a formal training program.

Assessment and Grading
|
Visa and final exams carried out in our department are partially carried out with test technique and partly with classical technique.
