About Programme

The mission of the Business Department is to cultivate distinguished and innovative entrepreneurs prioritizing qualified business managers preferred by the business community and committed to sustainable development, while pioneering in serving society and conducting high-quality research and development activities.

The vision of our program is to become one of the most preferred business departments in Turkey, both nationally and internationally, by students and the business community alike, setting an example in serving society and conducting high-quality research and development activities.

The objectives of our program are to instill teamwork among students, stimulate their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit, develop their organizational and management abilities, enable them to comprehend and evaluate events from various perspectives, and equip them with knowledge of the dynamics of business to nurture 'managers and managerial candidates' capable of generating solutions to problems.

The goals of our program are to contribute to scientific advancement by delivering effective, efficient, and high-quality teaching services.

 

Educational Objectives of the Business Program (EOs)

The educational objectives of the Business Program are to cultivate highly qualified business graduates with a diverse set of knowledge and skills across various fields. These objectives are outlined as follows:

1. Professional Knowledge and Preference: To develop professionals who stand out and are highly preferred at regional, national, and international levels across all sectors, equipped with both theoretical and practical knowledge in business administration,

2. Skill Acquisition: To prepare individuals with the management, leadership, language, communication, and technical skills required to meet the demands of today’s business world,

3. Analytical and Innovative Thinking: To nurture graduates capable of evaluating economic and social developments with an analytical perspective, generating innovative solutions, possessing intuitive and critical thinking abilities, and being team-oriented and solution-focused,

4. Ethics and Sustainability: To instill a commitment to ethical principles in professional and social life, prioritizing sustainable development goals, adhering to societal principles and universal norms, maintaining corporate social responsibility awareness, and embracing the principle of lifelong learning,

5. Diverse Employment Opportunities: To prepare graduates to work in various sectors of the economy and across different business departments or to establish their own independent companies by acquiring entrepreneurial skills
These objectives aim to ensure that business graduates are successful in their careers and contribute positively to society.

Program-Specific Criteria of the Business Department

1. Understand the relationship of business science with other social sciences such as economics, law, psychology, and finance.

2. Grasp the importance of management, supply, production, marketing, finance, human resources, accounting, research and development (R&D), and public relations functions within the functional structure of a business.

3. Learn production and marketing strategies and follow current trends.

4.  Acquire entrepreneurial knowledge and skills.

5. Gain and apply the necessary foreign language knowledge, information technology skills, mathematics, and analytical techniques for business activities. 

6. Evaluate the impact of social, economic, and legal structures and changes on business and economics at national and international levels. 

7. Learn Turkish legal regulations and assess the legal aspects of business activities within the framework of labor and commercial laws.

8. Understand the global economy, international organizations, multinational companies, and their activities. 

9. Convert the theoretical knowledge gained in accounting, financial management, independent auditing, and financial analysis courses into practical knowledge required in the field.

History
The Department of Business Administration was established on 02/02/2011 and began its educational activities in the 2010-2011 academic year. The department graduated its first students in the 2014-2015 academic year.

The department staff includes; Department Chair, Vice Chair of the Department, Faculty Members: 5 Professors, 3 Associate Professors, 12 Assistant Professors, Faculty Members and Lecturers assigned from other faculties and departments, 3 Research Assistants, 2 Administrative Staff.

The Department of Business Administration consists of the following sub-departments:

Upon successful completion of all the courses in the curriculum, the students are awarded the Bachelor of Arts Degree (BA) in Business Administration.
Admission Requirements
The admission of students to this undergraduate program is conducted through the national Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS), as regulated by the Higher Education Council (YÖK) in Turkey. To be eligible for this four-year undergraduate program, students must take the University Entrance Exam conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). The exam consists of two stages. The first stage is the Basic Proficiency Test (TYT). The second stage, the Field Proficiency Test (AYT), consists of five different sessions. Students participate in the session related to their chosen field, such as social sciences or foreign languages. Based on their exam scores, students select the undergraduate program and institution they wish to attend. Placement in this program is carried out by ÖSYM based on the students' exam scores and their overall average success scores from secondary school (high school in the Turkish education system). Following students' academic program preferences, ÖSYM places them in this program according to their YKS scores.

Higher Grade Transition
Upon successful completion of this programme, students may apply to second cycle degree master or directly to integrated third cycle doctorate programmes.
Graduation Requirements
In order to qualify for the award of Bachelor’s Degree, the student must complete
-all courses in the curriculum,
-a minimum CGPA of 2.00/4.00 (50/100) and 240 ECTS and no failing grades.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Graduates of this program, with the title of "Business Administrator," have the opportunity to work in various sectors such as banking, tourism, education, and manufacturing in areas like marketing, sales, accounting, finance, and human resources management. They can serve as administrators, inspectors, or administrative judges in the public sector, or they may work as certified public accountants or in senior management positions in private companies. Additionally, they may choose to become entrepreneurs by starting their own businesses.

Assessment and Grading
Exams are categorized as midterm exams, end-of-term exams, make-up exams, excuse exams, single-course exams, exemption exams, and additional course exams. Exams can be conducted face-to-face or online and may be written, oral, both written and oral, assignment-based, or practical. The grade for a course is determined by evaluating the student's activities and/or exams throughout the year. Assessment is primarily conducted according to the Relative Grading System (RGS). In cases where the conditions for the Relative Grading System (RGS) are not met, the Absolute Grading System (AGS) is used.
The exams are conducted by the Dean's Office as stated in the "Karabük University Associate Degree, Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations".
