About Programme
The purpose of Geography graduate program, students are equipped with the human and physical geography, with contemporary knowledge about a variety of spatial techniques have next to it is to train scientists. In this context;
a) wıll using modern geographical thought and research methods to search for solutions to spatial problems on a national and international level
b) will develop innovative methods of solution on these issues
c) will have an awareness of current research topics absorb the scientific research process
d) the ability of the direction they developed to contribute to the scientific literature it is to train individuals to be found.

History
The Geography Department was established in 2009 as a part of Faculty of Literature. The department, has started education since the academic year 2010-2011. In our department 7 Prof. Dr., 5 Associate Prof. Dr., 2 Assistant Prof. Dr. and 1 Research Assistant are employed and number of academic staff is rapidly rising. By the curriculum including courses from different disciplines and laboratory facilities, supported particularly with statistical analysis and Geographic Information Systems, it is aimed that our students will get education to acquire skills and modern methods of producing solutions to the problems of today's conjuncture. The curriculum includes Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) classes which become widespread in Turkey.
In our department, there is a 60-person computer lab opened for GIS and Remote Sensing courses. As of 2022, a dendrochronology laboratory has been established in our department.

Qualification Awarded
The Doctorate Degree (PhD) awarded to the graduates who successfully fulfil all the programme requirements.

Admission Requirements
For Turkish Citizens: Second Cycle (Master’s) Degree diploma with thesis, (2) A minimum ALES score of 55 or equivalent international examinations scores for graduate-level programmes such as GRE, GMAT, etc., recognised by YÖK. (3) A minimum score of 55 in accepted foreign language proficiency exams. Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their composite scores consisting of second cycle degree grade point averages, ALES and foreign language exam. For International Students: Second Cycle Degree diploma with thesis obtained from universities recognised by YÖK. Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their second cycle degree grade point averages.

Graduation Requirements
The students who study in the programme are required to fulfil the following graduation requirements in order to get the doctorate degree (PhD): • The students must pass all the credited courses with at least a letter grade BB, together with non-credited courses with at least the letter grade G • They must obtain a total of 240 ECTS Credits. • They must achieve a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 75 out of 100 or of at least 3.00 out of 4.00. • They must be successful in their seminar courses • They must prepare the doctorate thesis and defend it successfully.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Researchers graduated from the program may work as an academician. They can also find appropriate position for their specialty in government and private sector.

Assessment and Grading
(1) For those who are accepted with a master's degree with thesis, excluding the time spent in scientific preparation, the doctoral program is at least eight semesters for each semester, starting from the semester in which the courses related to the program they are enrolled in, regardless of whether they are registered or not, and the maximum completion period is 12 semesters; For those admitted with a bachelor's degree, it is 10 semesters and the maximum completion period is 14 semesters. (2) The maximum period for successfully completing the required credit courses for the doctoral program is four semesters for those who are accepted with a master's degree with thesis, and six semesters for those who are accepted with a bachelor's degree. Students who fail to complete their credit courses successfully within this period or who cannot achieve a minimum GPA of 3.00 out of 4.00 are dismissed from the institute. (3) A student who successfully completes the credit courses, is successful in the proficiency exam and whose thesis proposal is accepted, but who cannot complete the thesis work according to the first paragraph by the end of twelve or fourteen semesters, is dismissed from the institute. (4) Students who have applied to a doctorate program with a bachelor's degree, those who cannot complete the thesis work within the maximum period of the credit courses and/or those who have not been successful in the doctoral thesis, can receive a non-thesis master's diploma upon request, provided that they have fulfilled the credit load, project and other similar requirements for the non-thesis master's. is given. An additional semester is given to the student within the maximum period of time to fulfill the requirements. The student who fails at the end of this period is dismissed from the institute.
