About Programme








The purpose of Geography graduate program, students are equipped with the human and physical geography, with contemporary knowledge about a variety of spatial techniques have next to it is to train scientists. In this context; 



 



a) wıll using modern geographical thought and research methods to search for solutions to spatial problems on a national and international level 



 



b) will develop innovative methods of solution on these issues 



 



c) will have an awareness of current research topics absorb the scientific research process 



 



d) the ability of the direction they developed to contribute to the scientific literature it is to train individuals to be found.




The aim of the Geography graduate program is to train students who are well-equipped in the fields of human and physical geography, have contemporary knowledge, as well as knowledgeable about various spatial techniques. In this context,
A) Will seek solutions to national and international spatial problems by using contemporary geographical thought and research methods

B) Will develop innovative solution methods for these problems

C) Will be able to absorb the scientific research process and have awareness of current research issues

D) To raise individuals who will contribute to the scientific literature in line with the skills they have developed.

History
The foundation of the Department of Geography within the Faculty of Letters of Karabük University dates back to 2010. The department started student admission in the 2010-2011 academic year. In our department 7 Prof. Dr., 5 Associate Prof. Dr., 2 Assistant Prof. Dr. and 1 Research Assistant are employed and number of academic staff is rapidly rising. By the curriculum including courses from different disciplines and laboratory facilities, supported particularly with statistical analysis and Geographic Information Systems, it is aimed that our students will get education to acquire skills and modern methods of producing solutions to the problems of today's conjuncture.
In our department, there is a 60-person computer lab opened for GIS and Remote Sensing courses. As of 2022, a dendrochronology laboratory has been established in our department.
Qualification Awarded
Graduates of this program receive the title of "Doctor".
Admission Requirements
For Turkish Citizens:
Second Cycle (Master’s) Degree diploma with thesis, (2) A minimum ALES score of 55 or equivalent international examinations scores for graduate-level programmes such as GRE, GMAT, etc., recognised by YÖK. (3) A minimum score of 55 in accepted foreign language proficiency exams. Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their composite scores consisting of second cycle degree grade point averages, ALES and foreign language exam.
For International Students:
Second Cycle Degree diploma with thesis obtained from universities recognised by YÖK. Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their second cycle degree grade point averages.

Graduation Requirements
The student who completes the course in the amount of the total credit determined by the institute from the courses in the education plan, is eligible to graduate if it is found successful in the evaluation made by the thesis jury after the thesis preparation process.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
They can work as lecturers at universities, and take appropriate positions in the public and private sectors according to their areas of expertise.
Assessment and Grading
(4) For students who have applied to the doctorate program with a bachelor's degree, who cannot complete the credit courses and / or the thesis within the maximum period, those who are not successful in the doctoral thesis, the required credit load for the non-thesis master's degree, the project and other similar requirements, upon request, given. An additional semester is given to the student within the maximum period of time to fulfill the requirements. The student who fails at the end of this period is dismissed from the institute.
