About Programme
It is aimed to gain expertise in the fields of design and production, to contribute to the continuity of education in the academic field by giving doctorate education to students who have graduated from the departments related to the Industrial Design Engineering Doctorate Program.

History
The educational activities of Doctoral programme started in 1998 as the Machine Education department of the Zonguldak Karaelmas University, Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences. In 2007, Karabük University was established and the Department of Machine Education continued education at Karabük University. Since 2009, the department has continued graduate education as Industrial Design Engineering at Karabük University.
Qualification Awarded
Upon successful completion of all the necessary and selective courses in the curriculum, passing Ph.D qualifying exam, seminar and Ph.D. thesis defence exam, the students are awarded Doctorate Degree in Industrial Design Engineering field.
Admission Requirements
For Turkish Citizens:
Second Cycle (Master’s) Degree diploma with thesis, (2) A minimum ALES score of 55 or equivalent international examinations scores for graduate-level programmes such as GRE, GMAT, etc., recognised by YÖK. (3) A minimum score of 55 in accepted foreign language proficiency exams. Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their composite scores consisting of second cycle degree grade point averages, ALES and foreign language exam.

For International Students:
Second Cycle Degree diploma with thesis obtained from universities recognised by YÖK. Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their second cycle degree grade point averages.

Graduation Requirements
The students who study in the programme are required to fulfil the following graduation requirements in order to get the Doctorate degree;
• The students must pass all the credited courses with at least a letter grade BB, together with non-credited courses with at least the letter grade G.
• They must obtain a total of 240 ECTS Credits.
• They must achieve a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 75 out of 100 or of at least 3.00 out of 4.00.
• They must be successful in their seminar courses.
• They must prepare the doctorate thesis and defend it successfully.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Students who successfully complete the program and have a doctorate degree have the opportunity to work in automotive industry, manufacturing industry, bio-medical industry, construction industry, furniture industry, industrial product design, sheet-metal die design and applications, mold die design and applications, rapid prototyping and 3D printers, polymer composites, furniture design, CAD/CAM/CAE applications, CNC system design fields.

In addition, the students can work as an engineer and manager in enterprises that carry out manufacturing and R&D activities in public and private sectors.
Assessment and Grading
Exams for credit courses at the Department of Industrial Design Engineering are carried out as midterm, final and make-up exams. In determining the passing grade, 40% of the midterm exam is calculated by taking 60% of the final grade. In addition to the exams, the course can be used to determine the grade of success in the activities such as homework, project and practice according to the decision of the instructors.
