About Programme
The aim of the PhD program of the department is to train students deepen their knowledge in science and technology of materials in order to give students the phenomena behind the theoretical aspects of the fundementals and presenting them the strong relation between the theory and the practice by laboratory research, visiting industrial plants. The program further pursue that students are equipped with the needs of prominent sectors of nation s economy such as iron and steel, plastic industries, ceramics and glass technology.
The main objectives of the programme can be summarized as:
- to educate students according to compensate the needs of nation s manpower in metallurgical and materials industries and in higher education institutions.
- to provide students with the skill and experience and background thus being capable of effecting changes in imported technology to meet local needs through research and development.
- to provide academicians for the pursuit of higher education degrees.

History
The Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Doctorate Program was opened in the Higher Education General Assembly meeting on 09/08/2012, in accordance with the 4th and 7th articles of the relevant regulation, 14th article of the Law No. 3843, and article 6 of the Law No. 2809.There are 10 students in the doctoral program.

Qualification Awarded
The Doctorate Degree (PhD) in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (doctorate) awarded to the graduates who successfully fulfil all the programme requirements.

Admission Requirements
For Turkish Citizens: Second Cycle (Master’s) Degree diploma with thesis, (2) A minimum ALES score of 55 or equivalent international examinations scores for graduate-level programmes such as GRE, GMAT, etc., recognised by YÖK. (3) A minimum score of 55 in accepted foreign language proficiency exams. Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their composite scores consisting of second cycle degree grade point averages, ALES and foreign language exam.
For International Students: Second Cycle Degree diploma with thesis obtained from universities recognised by YÖK. Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their second cycle degree grade point averages.

Graduation Requirements
The students who study in the programme are required to fulfil the following graduation requirements in order to get the doctorate degree (PhD): • The students must pass all the credited courses with at least a letter grade BB, together with non-credited courses with at least the letter grade G • They must obtain a total of 240 ECTS Credits. • They must achieve a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 75 out of 100 or of at least 3.00 out of 4.00. • They must be successful in their seminar courses • They must prepare the doctorate thesis and defend it successfully. Occupational Profiles of Graduates
After having PhD degree in Metallurgical and Material Engineering programme, our graduates can work in metal production (iron and steel plants,non-ferrous metals) industries, metal forming (i.e. rolling casting) and heat treatment industries, glass industry, structural and electronic ceramic industries. Besides, graduates can find academic positions in the related fields at universities.
